Complaints of dizziness and balance problems are common to many people, especially the elderly. People seek out medical care for these problems because their effect on a person’s lifestyle can be so disabling. Dizziness itself is not actually a disease, but a symptom which has many different causes. It is estimated that 85% of all dizziness is the result of an inner ear problem.
Rehabilitation Associates, Inc. works closely with physicians in the assessment and treatment of dizziness and problems of the inner ear. Our comprehensive evaluation includes assessment of vertigo, eye/head coordination, postural control and balance. We offer an exercise-based approach which minimizes the effects of dizziness on lifestyle and maximizes the person’s ability to function in their everyday activities by improving balance and stability. These specialized exercises have been shown to be as effective as medication in controlling many symptoms. Associated complaints of headaches, fatigue, anxiety, poor memory and concentration are also addressed and incorporated into the overall treatment. Finally, a fitness program is individually designed to ensure ongoing reduction of symptoms. The Vestibular Program is available at each of our outpatient facilities.
